Hydrogen lorries
In addition to fully electric vehicles, hydrogen is an indispensable source of energy when it comes to the mobility transformation in the logistics sector, particularly for longer journeys. The move towards replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen is a major opportunity for our industrial site and will most certainly guarantee our competitiveness in the future.

Hydrogen lorries
In December 2022, we were the first company to put our own hydrogen lorries into operation. The Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell has seven hydrogen tanks with a capacity of 31 kilograms. The fuel cell as a power source combines two 90 kW stacks into one 180 kW unit. Three battery packs with a total capacity of 216 kWh act as buffer tanks. These are necessary for feeding the electric motor during peak loads. Its maximum output of 350 kW cannot be achieved via the fuel cell alone.
With a range of 400 kilometres, we are able to make two trips a day to the Swiss Post logistics centre in Dintikon.
The filling infrastructure remains to be improved:
as part of a regional concept, we want to build a production facility for electrolytic hydrogen production so that we are not limited to the public hydrogen filling station on site.
The electricity required for this will come from a five to seven megawatt-strong photovoltaic plant on the roof of our Herdenen site. We also want to generate our own electricity by means of a wind turbine on the roof of the building..
In the medium term, we want up to 30 lorries a day to be hydrogen-powered. We also want to successively involve our customers and market players in this topic as this is strategically important for the entire region.
We will continue to drive the conversion of our own fleet.
In addition to support from the town of Villingen-Schwenningen, we are also supported by local public utility companies, energy providers and consultancy firms.
We are committed to investing further in the topic of sustainability. It is clear to the mid-sized sector that economy and ecology are interrelated.
